VILLAGE OF SCOTIA RESIDENTS

Annual Fall Curbside Loose Leaf Pick Up: The Village of Scotia Department of Public Works will begin their annual fall loose leaf pick up program on or about Monday, October 19, 2009 and continue, weather permitting, until Monday, December 7, 2009. Residents may rake their leaves curbside for vacuum pick up. Please do not mix brush or dirt in with your loose leaves. Mixed piles of brush and dirt in with the leaves will not be picked up.

 Yard Waste Collection: Regular yard waste collection will continue until the week before Thanksgiving. As in previous years, your yard waste will be picked up on your regular trash collection day. The rules and regulations are as follows: Recyclables shall mean residential or commercial leaf waste, lawn clippings and brush. Receptacle requirements: Yard waste consisting of grass, leaves, hedge clippings and twigs etc., shall be in either a 30 gallon compostable paper bag or a receptacle that is rigid and water proof with handles and lid, 30 gallon maximum size, with the container clearly marked yard waste. Either receptacle must not exceed 60 pounds. Yard waste consisting of brush and tree branches must be 4 inches maximum in diameter, 4 feet maximum in length and 60 pounds maximum weight. The bundles must be tied. Note: Brush and limbs over 4 inches in diameter and stumps must be disposed of by the property owner.


THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR TRASH COLLECTION ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Services shall include:

  1. Non recycling solid waste, up to 90 gallons per week; No 90 gallon containers will be picked up. Two 45 gal. or three 30 gal. containers are acceptable.
  2. Recyclable tin, plastic and glass, up to 30 gallons per week with a lid and sticker placed on the container. All containers should be cleaned and rinsed. Flatten cans & remove paper from containers when possible.
  3. Recyclable paper products up to 30 gallons per week with a lid and sticker placed on the container; all papers should be clean and dry.
  4. Recyclable corrugated cardboard, up to ½ cubic yard per week;
  5. Services shall be provided to each service location once per week, with up to one furniture item per week per residential unit.

 NOTE: Normal weekly services shall not include: Bulk waste, hazardous waste, construction and demolition debris, more than one piece of furniture per week, tires, white goods, car parts, yard waste, brush or garden vegetation, except when otherwise specified.
