Community Note to Village Residents:
From the Police Chief Thomas B. Rush

As a Village resident, you should be aware of the laws involving vendors to protect both you and your property.  A person coming to your front door who is attempting to sell or dispense merchandise is required by Village Law to have a Vendors Permit. These permits must be worn and in plain view. Village residents are asked to contact the Police Department (384-2244) if they feel an individual is soliciting without a permit.

The vending permit does not apply to newspaper sales and youth groups such as scouts or little league.

Under the Village Code section 232-1 License required:

No person shall engage in or conduct a temporary or transient business of vending, canvassing, soliciting, peddling or otherwise dispensing merchandise, magazines subscriptions, photography or other goods or services within the Village of Scotia without first obtaining a license therefore, whether such business is conducted by traveling from house to house; upon the streets, sidewalks or other public grounds; or from a room, store office or other place of business or otherwise.

PLAY IT SAFE, CONTACT THE POLICE DEPT.

LOCK IT UP

Every year the Police Department investigates numerous calls on property being stolen from resident’s vehicles. To cut down on this type of theft, Village residents should keep their car doors locked. Even if your vehicle is in the garage, PLEASE LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS.
